Ways to Pay

We believe that world-class challenges shouldn't just be for those with deep pockets, and they should support the causes we care about. That's why we've built an industry-leading fundraising model that puts the power back into the hands of the community.

  • 100% of your fundraising goes to the charity. Your charity pays Hardest a balance fee to cover the remaining cost of your place on the challenge.
  • When you book, you have a 2-week Hardest safety net where you can get a full refund on your booking if you need to, no questions asked!
  • Running the half or the full? Pick your distance below, each has its own set of registration options.

Itinerary

Touch down in Lisbon and head straight to the Sport Expo to collect your Lisbon Marathon bib. Admin done, we're jumping on Tram 28 into the Alfama, Lisbon's oldest neighbourhood, a tangle of medieval streets and hilltop viewpoints with the Tagus glittering below. Find a Fado house, order a Vinho Verde, and let the city set the tone.

Hardest HighlightA Fado singer starting up in a candlelit Alfama bar the night before race day. Mournful, powerful, and somehow exactly what you need.
What's Included
  • Guaranteed entry to the EDP Lisbon Marathon
  • Race expo visit
  • Hostel accommodation
  • Carb-load dinner for full marathon runners
Transfer - -

We head to Belém for a light shake-out along the Tagus riverfront, the same stretch you'll be racing tomorrow. Then it's straight to the Pastéis de Belém bakery for the only pre-race fuel that matters: custard tarts made to a secret recipe unchanged since 1837. Legs loose. Glycogen loaded. Ready.

Hardest HighlightRunning the Tagus waterfront in the morning quiet, Jerónimos Monastery on one side, the river on the other. A preview of what race day looks like when you've still got energy.
What's Included
  • Guided shake-out run
  • Hostel accommodation
5 km30 mins+10m

This is it. The 8:00am gun fires in Carcavelos on the Atlantic coast and you're off. The first 25km of the Lisbon Marathon route hug the ocean, rolling and relentless, before pivoting inland along the Tagus.

The Finish: You cross the line at Praça do Comércio, Lisbon's grand riverside square, with the Tagus behind the finish arch and the city in front of you. It's one of the most beautiful finishes in European marathon running.

The After-party: And the fun doesn't end there as we've organised our own venue for an outrageous afterparty. The beveraginos will be flowing and the dance floor will call all our names as we celebrate everything we've accomplished together.

Hardest HighlightThe Belém stretch at km 35: the Tower to your left, Jerónimos Monastery to your right, and the finish line three miles away. Pain meets beauty. You won't forget it.
What's Included
  • EDP Lisbon Marathon race day
  • Private Hardest Adventures after-party
  • Hostel accommodation

Legs are done, so we keep it slow. A gentle walk through Belém to the Jerónimos Monastery: UNESCO-listed, built to celebrate the Age of Exploration, and the resting place of Vasco da Gama. It's been standing since 1502. It doesn't care about your sore quads. One last pastel de Belém, then home.

Hardest HighlightStanding inside Jerónimos Monastery with a finisher's medal in your bag. Vasco da Gama sailed to India from here. You ran here from the Atlantic. Close enough.

Get yourself to Lisbon and back. We take it from there.

Visas

Sort a visa if you need one for Portugal. Most UK students won't.

04

The Training

We build your structured training plan. You put in the miles.

Not included in your trip price: flights to and from Lisbon, travel insurance, visas (if required), transport around Lisbon (outside marathon day), activities in Lisbon, meals not specified in the itinerary, and personal spending.

If you have chosen the charity fundraising option, your fundraising deadline is 8 weeks before your challenge start date. With the support of your charity rep, Hardest Adventures, challenge leaders, and University, it's almost impossible not to reach your target.

In the unlikely event the target isn't met by the deadline, here are your options:

  1. If you're above 80% of your target and have plans in place, your charity can grant you a 2-week deadline extension.
  2. You can put your own money in and fundraise it back afterwards, as long as you don't keep more than you put in.
  3. You can defer to next year's trip for a small fee, giving you an extra year to hit your target.
Our Promise We want you to take on this adventure of a lifetime, and we'll do all we can to help you do so.
